Position Summary 

MedWeb is seeking an experienced HL7 & Interoperability Engineer to design, implement, and support healthcare integrations across the MedWeb product ecosystem. This role is responsible for connecting MedWeb solutions with PACS, RIS, EHR/EMR systems, VNAs, HIEs, cloud platforms, and third-party healthcare applications using HL7, FHIR, DICOM, APIs, and related interoperability technologies. 

The ideal candidate combines strong healthcare integration expertise with hands-on Linux administration skills and a deep understanding of clinical workflows, healthcare data exchange, and enterprise imaging environments. This individual will work closely with Product Management, Development, Customer Success, and client IT teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure integrations that drive customer success. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Integration Design & Development 

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy HL7 v2.x interfaces including ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, DFT, and MDM message types. 

  • Develop and maintain FHIR-based integrations and RESTful APIs. 

  • Configure and support healthcare interface engines such as Mirth Connect (NextGen Connect) and related integration platforms. 

  • Create data mappings, transformation logic, routing rules, and interface specifications. 

  • Design interoperability solutions between MedWeb products and customer systems. 

  • Healthcare Interoperability 

  • Analyze customer workflows and technical requirements to develop effective integration strategies. 

  • Implement standards-based interoperability solutions utilizing HL7, FHIR, DICOM, CDA, and APIs. 

  • Support integrations involving PACS, RIS, VNAs, diagnostic viewers, imaging modalities, and enterprise imaging platforms. 

  • Collaborate directly with customers, vendors, and implementation teams during onboarding, testing, and go-live activities. 

  • Linux Platform Administration & Support 

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot applications and services running in Linux environments. 

  • Manage system services, file systems, permissions, networking, and application configurations. 

  • Analyze system, application, and integration logs to diagnose issues and optimize performance. 

  • Perform shell scripting and automation tasks to support deployment and operational efficiency. 

  • Support software upgrades, patches, and platform maintenance activities. 

  • Troubleshooting & Production Support 

  • Monitor and support production integrations across customer environments. 

  • Troubleshoot interface failures, data transmission issues, workflow interruptions, and application errors. 

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. 

  • Collaborate with Development and Support teams to resolve customer-reported issues. 

  • Participate in after-hours support and escalation activities as needed. 

  • Documentation & Quality Assurance 

  • Create and maintain interface specifications, workflow diagrams, mapping documents, and technical runbooks. 

  • Develop and execute integration test plans. 

  • Validate message accuracy, data integrity, and workflow performance. 

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, security requirements, and industry best practices. 

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Partner with Product Management to identify and prioritize integration opportunities. 

  • Support pre-sales discussions and technical discovery sessions when needed. 

  • Provide technical guidance during customer implementations and solution design reviews. 

  • Translate clinical, operational, and business requirements into scalable technical solutions. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • US Citizenship 

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, or related field. 

  • Master's degree preferred. 

  • Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills. 

  • Experience working in command-line Linux environments. 

  • Experience managing services, file systems, permissions, and application deployments. 

  • Ability to analyze logs and troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues. 

  • Experience with Bash scripting or other Linux automation tools. 

  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases. 

  • Experience with XML, JSON, REST APIs, and web services. 

  • Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, SSL/TLS, firewalls, and secure communications. 

  • Knowledge of healthcare security and HIPAA compliance requirements. 

 

Experience 

  • 3+ years of experience in healthcare interoperability, interface development, or healthcare integration engineering. 

  • Strong understanding of HL7 v2.x messaging standards including ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, DFT, and MDM. 

  • Experience developing and supporting FHIR-based integrations and RESTful APIs. 

  • Hands-on experience with Mirth Connect (NextGen Connect) or similar healthcare integration platforms.
